Why I built Cadence Golf

I love golf and like most golfers, I want to play better. About 5 years ago I started tracking some basic stats to better inform the narrative of my game. Where I was struggling, what I was doing well... You know the saying, "What isn't measured cannot be improved."

There are plenty of apps that do this just fine, but none that capture the real story of the round. What the weather was like, the stretch on the back 9 where I was 1-under, my first birdie at a new course... All of those things seemed to get lost over time. I built something for me to help change that, and I've decided it's decent enough to share with others.

One of the things I'm most excited about with Cadence is the post round review. Sitting at the bar with your friends after a round of golf is one of the best parts of the game. "How did you play on 7?" I'd look at the scorecard and struggle to remember exactly what went down on that hole. Cadence automatically logs your shot positions on every hole without the need for expensive sensors or manual shot logging. Pull up the round review and see where you played each hole, instantly. Ah, yes... #7 - I missed the fairway right, missed the green short, chipped on and made that 30 footer for par.

Remember the rounds you play at the courses you're honored to visit. Identify the holes that give you trouble and the ones you dominate. If you can do that and get a bit better along the way, that's a win in my book.

Passive shot tracking

Your Apple Watch detects every swing. Cadence places it on the course map. Walk to your ball, swing again. That's the whole interaction. Built natively for the Watch you already have, so you don't need to spend hundreds on club sensors or other hardware.

Patterns that emerge as you play

Tap in your fairway, GIR, and putts each hole. Cadence finds the patterns across rounds: par-scaled scoring, course-specific tendencies, the holes that consistently cost you strokes.

Your data stays yours

Cadence has no servers. Your rounds, courses, and shot maps live on your device and in your private iCloud. I can't see them. I don't want to. Built privacy-first by architecture, not by promise.

I don't run servers. I don't store your data. I don't sell ads. There's no analytics. I chose this architecture on purpose. The simplest privacy promise is one I can't break, because I don't have your data to begin with.
