Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 10, 2026
Cadence Golf doesn't collect your data. I don't run servers that store your rounds. There's no analytics, no ads, no third-party trackers. Your data lives on your device and in your private iCloud, and I can't see it.
This policy explains what data Cadence Golf accesses on your device, where that data lives, and what I do and don't see. I've tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email me at support@getcadence.golf and I'll explain.
Who I am
Cadence Golf is built by Matt Amick, an independent developer working solo. There's no company behind it. I write the code, ship the app, answer the support email, and (if needed) update this policy. It's just me.
What data Cadence collects
None. Cadence doesn't collect, transmit, or store your data on any server I operate. I chose this architecture intentionally. The simplest privacy promise is one I can't break, because I don't have your data to begin with.
What Cadence accesses on your device
To do its job, Cadence asks for permission to access certain things on your iPhone and Apple Watch. iOS and watchOS will prompt you the first time each is needed. Here's what each is for and where the data goes:
Location
Used during a round to record where each shot was hit. Locations are saved alongside your shots in your local app database, which syncs through Apple's CloudKit to your private iCloud. I never receive your location data.
Motion & Fitness (Apple Watch)
The Watch's motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) are used to detect when you swing a club. The motion data itself is processed entirely on your Watch and is not stored, transmitted, or sent to me.
Health (Apple HealthKit)
Cadence creates a "Golf" workout in HealthKit while you're playing a round, so your activity ring and workout history reflect that you played golf. Workout data and any associated GPS route stay in HealthKit on your devices. Cadence does not export, share, or upload this data to anyone, and never uses HealthKit data for advertising or sale of any kind (this is a permanent restriction Apple imposes on apps that use HealthKit).
Camera and Photo Library
Optional. Used when you want to add a course logo or a profile photo. The photo you choose is stored as image data inside Cadence's local database and synced through your private iCloud. I don't have access to your camera roll or the photos you select.
Where your data lives
All data Cadence creates (your rounds, scores, shots, course list, and profile information) is stored in two places:
- On your device, in Cadence's local database (using Apple's SwiftData framework).
- In your private iCloud, via Apple's CloudKit private database. This is the same iCloud account that holds your photos, notes, and other personal data. It belongs to you, not me. I have no way to access it.
This means your rounds follow you across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac if you're signed into the same Apple ID. If you delete the app and reinstall later, your data comes back. If you sign out of iCloud or turn off iCloud sync for Cadence, the cloud copy is removed and only the local copy on each device remains.
Third-party services
Cadence uses a small number of third-party services to function. I've tried to keep this list short and only include what's strictly necessary:
Apple iCloud (CloudKit)
For syncing your rounds across your devices. Apple is the data processor here, not me. The CloudKit private database is part of your iCloud, so Apple's privacy practices apply. Apple's Privacy Policy.
GolfCourseAPI
When you search for a course to add, your search query (course name, city, etc.) is sent to GolfCourseAPI to look up course information (hole layouts, par, yardage, ratings). The query is treated as a normal API request; no personal identifiers are attached to the query, and no data about you or your rounds is sent. Once a course is added to your library, future round-tracking happens entirely on your device without further calls to this service.
Apple WeatherKit
If a round is annotated with weather conditions, Cadence requests the weather summary for the course location at the time of the round. Apple receives the location request through WeatherKit. I do not store any identifier with the request. Apple's WeatherKit Privacy.
What I don't do
- No analytics or tracking SDKs (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Firebase, none).
- No advertising. No advertising identifier (IDFA). Cadence does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because it has nothing to track.
- No marketing emails. I don't ask for your email address.
- No selling, sharing, or licensing of your data. I don't have it to sell.
- No social features that require an account. Your Apple ID is your account.
Data retention and deletion
Because Cadence doesn't have your data on my end, there is nothing for me to retain or delete. Your data lives in two places, both controlled by you:
- The copy on your device is removed when you delete the Cadence app from that device.
- The copy in your private iCloud is removed when you sign out of iCloud, disable iCloud sync for Cadence in Settings, or delete the app from all your devices and confirm the iCloud cleanup.
If you'd like to delete all Cadence data immediately, the simplest way is: open the Cadence app, delete it from your iPhone, and turn off iCloud sync for Cadence in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Cadence Golf.
Children
Cadence is not directed at children under the age of 13. I don't knowingly collect any data from children, and the architecture means no data is collected from anyone in the first place. The App Store age rating for Cadence reflects this.
Security
Because Cadence has no servers, there are no servers for me to secure, no databases of yours for someone to breach. Data on your device is protected by iOS's standard encryption (which is enabled by default on every iPhone and Apple Watch). Data in your private iCloud is protected by Apple's CloudKit security, which uses end-to-end encryption for many private database categories. Your iCloud account's security (password, two-factor authentication) is managed by you and Apple.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data I hold about you. Because I don't hold any personal data about you, there is nothing for me to access, correct, or delete on my end. Your data is entirely under your control through your device and iCloud account.
If you have a question or concern about your privacy, contact me at support@getcadence.golf.
Changes to this policy
If I ever change how Cadence handles data (for example, if I add a feature that genuinely requires server-side processing), I'll update this policy and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, I'll do my best to surface a notification in the app. I'll never quietly start collecting data I used to not collect.
